Job Responsibilities

Inspects assigned contractors work to ensure that work is in accordance with the plans, contract, SCDOT Standard Specifications, and Standard Drawings.

Performs work in specialized areas of asphalt, earthwork, and foundations.

Completes traffic control and erosion control inspections and associated reports.

Obtains samples and certifications of materials to submit to the laboratory for testing and acceptance.

Inputs sample and certification data in Site Manager.

Reviews sampling requirements and test results to ensure that adequate samples have been obtained to represent materials used during construction.

Performs office work involving engineering data as well as compiling quantities, preparing reports and as-built construction plans.

Maintains accuracy of contractor staking for construction items.

Computes grades for all types of bridge and roadway construction plans.

Affords assistance with emergency and inclement weather operations, including extended hours and/or 12-hour shifts.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management.
  • Relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • May require travel.
  • Requires driving and walking for extended periods.
  • Works in close proximity to motoring traffic.
  • Exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
