About the role
Sedgebrook is seeking a reliable and hospitality-focused Transportation Driver to support our senior living residents. This role is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of residents to medical appointments, scheduled activities, shopping trips, and community events. The Transportation Driver provides courteous, resident-centered service, assists residents entering and exiting vehicles, supports occasional Life Enrichment outings, and manages the organization and delivery of resident and staff packages throughout the community.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport residents to and from medical appointments, scheduled activities, shopping trips, and community events.
- Safely operate company vehicles for local and extended trips, including driving into Chicago and on interstate highways as needed.
- Assists residents on and off company vehicles; properly handle walkers, wheelchairs, canes, and other mobility aids.
- Perform pre-trip safety inspections of assigned vehicles (bus, van, or car).
- Accurately document mileage and resident attendance for all trips.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness (interior and exterior); communicate when professional cleaning is needed.
- Transport vehicles for scheduled preventive maintenance.
- Report vehicle malfunctions or repair needs immediately.
- Ensure vehicles are fueled and ready for daily transportation schedules.
- Communicate resident concerns or incidents to the supervisor; contact 911 in emergencies.
- Load and unload groceries, packages, and purchased items as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 6 months of experience as a bus driver, van driver or transportation driver.
- Valid Illinois driver's license with a clean driving record (MVR check required upon hire and annually).
- Ability to understand and communicate in English and perform basic arithmetic.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly, courteous demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to read maps and follow directions.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended period (up to 6 hours per day).
- Ability to stoop, bend, stretch, and squat to load/unload vehicles.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (groceries, luggage, packages).
- Ability to work in varying outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain).
- Must be able to safely operate vehicles in wet or slippery conditions.
