About the role

Envida provides transportation services and home care services. We are seeking a Transit Driver who will transport people with disabilities, low-income, and/or older adults from their home to various destinations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and punctual transportation and assistance to the public, including people with disabilities or older adults with courtesy and compassion.
  • Communicate daily with dispatch regarding deviations from schedule or any other concerns.
  • Conduct documented pre-then-post trip inspections on the vehicle to ensure safety and readiness for operation.
  • Maintain daily accurate and up-to-date paperwork associated with driving duties, including fuel purchases, accident reports, incident reports, vehicle condition reports, and other records as requested by management.
  • Collect and secure passenger donations daily and deliver to the main office.
  • Communicate with supervisor, other drivers, and office staff regarding deviations from schedule or any other concerns.
  • Mandatory attendance at periodic safety training meetings.
  • Stop frequently, often only a few blocks apart, and when a passenger requests a stop.
  • Collect fares and issue change.
  • Answer questions about schedules, routes, and transfer points.
  • Report accidents or other traffic disruptions to a central dispatcher and follow directions when using an alternate route.
  • Assist disabled passengers.
  • Check the bus tires, lights, and oil and perform other basic maintenance.
  • Follow state and federal transit regulations.
  • Keep passengers informed of delays.
  • Operate and safely drive chassis.
  • Prepare units for transport with chassis and body modifications as needed to accommodate transport and drive-away.
  • Work within all safety guidelines to ensure an efficient and safe transfer process.
  • Notify managers of any maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
  • Ensure vehicles are clean and presentable.
  • Ensure the lot is organized, clean, and free from trash, litter, and debris.
  • Arrange and park vehicles in designated lot areas.
  • Guarantee dealership license plate frames are affixed to vehicles.
  • Oversee and maintain keys.
  • Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive in accordance with the weather/road conditions.
  • Always make safety a priority.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Requirements

  • Adhere to Envida dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Adhere to legal practice standards, including applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards.
  • Complete annual education requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all business records.
  • Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Participate in the organization's performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the organization.

  • Able to function independently using good judgment and maturity.
  • Must be 25 years old or older.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid current driver's license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Able to pass a background check and drug test.
  • Work with people in wheelchairs from their home to their destination, with a maximum of three steps.
  • Problem-solving and conflict management, always maintaining composure and safety of passengers.
  • Able to review, complete, and submit paperwork electronically.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl up to 1/3 of the time.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, reach with hands and arms, and/or exert force up to 50 pounds up to 1/2 of the time.
  • Must be able to talk and use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel (must be able to perform repetitive motions associated with driving).
  • Close vision at 20 inches or less, color vision with ability to identify and distinguish colors, peripheral vision with ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, depth perception - three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships, ability to adjust focus - to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus, hearing requirements ability to hear alarms on equipment, ability to hear phone calls, ability to hear passengers while driving.
