Transportation Construction Manager
About the role
Michael Baker International’s Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators and safety experts. As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day construction management and inspection activities on high-impact transportation projects (highways, interchanges, bridges, arterials)
- Serve as the primary point of leadership for field staff, inspectors, and project teams—driving performance, accountability, and development
- Oversee contractor operations to ensure compliance with ODOT/KYTC standards, safety requirements, and project specifications
- Manage all aspects of construction administration, including contracts, pay applications, change orders, RFIs, and project documentation
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with DOT representatives, clients, and stakeholders
- Drive project success by actively monitoring schedule, budget, and quality performance
- Lead project meetings and provide clear, strategic updates to clients and senior leadership
- Ensure all work aligns with federal, state, and local regulations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in transportation construction management (roadway/bridge focus)
- Strong working knowledge of ODOT and/or KYTC standards and processes (certifications a plus)
- Proven ability to lead teams and deliver complex infrastructure projects successfully
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust across teams and clients
- Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical requirements with confidence
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work in dynamic, field-based environments

Pay
The approximate compensation range for this position is $101,000 - $160,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
