Transportation Construction Inspector (Entry-Level)
About the role
As part of HDR’s Field Services team, you’ll be on the front lines of infrastructure development, ensuring that what’s designed is built to the highest standards. From highways and bridges to water treatment plants, transit systems, and power facilities, your work ensures that our clients’ visions become reality with precision, integrity, and excellence. This role focuses on construction engineering and inspection duties for highway and bridge projects, utilizing NCDOT policies and procedures. Responsibilities include materials testing, construction observation, reporting, and enforcement of contract documents.
Responsibilities
- Perform construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and bridge construction projects.
- Conduct materials testing and construction observation.
- Prepare reports and documentation related to construction progress and compliance.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Identify discrepancies or conflicts within contract documents.
- Enforce contract documents and ensure adherence to NCDOT policies and procedures.
- Travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections as required.
Qualifications
Required
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must pass drug-screening procedures prior to hiring; subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing thereafter.
- Commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture.

- NCDOT experience.
- Technical school degree.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law.
- Local candidates preferred.
