Texas Children’s presence in Austin supports a pediatric population of more than half a million, keeping kids healthy and happy from birth to adulthood. Texas Children’s first health care location in Austin, Texas Children’s Urgent Care West Gate, opened in March 2018, providing high-quality pediatric-focused care after hours and on weekends. There are now more than 15 Texas Children’s Pediatric primary care practices in the greater Austin area offering full-service family care, including routine childhood immunizations, well visits, and sick care. Our Specialty Care Center in Austin includes a multidisciplinary group of pediatric specialists committed to providing comprehensive care across a wide spectrum of services. Texas Children’s Hospital North Austin is a new state-of-the-art facility providing world-class pediatric and maternal care to Austin families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in nursing or associate degree in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement, or an associate degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining an RN license, or technical diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement, or currently enrolled in a nursing bridge program working toward an MSN. Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required.
• Required Licenses/Certifications (ALL):
  • RN - Licensed Registered Nurse by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse Licensure Compact
  • BLS - Basic Life Support certification by the American Heart Association
  • US Passport or other appropriate documentation allowing international travel (required within 4 months of hire)
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification by the American Heart Association (required within 4 months of hire)
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association (required within 4 months of hire)
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification by the American Heart Association (required within 6 months of hire)
  • CNPT - Neonatal Pediatric Transport certification by the National Certification Corporation (required within 18 months of hire)
  • CCRN - Critical Care Registered Nurse certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (required within 18 months of hire)
• 3 years of critical care experience in a pediatric or neonatal intensive care setting or 3 years of Pediatric Emergency Center experience in a Level 1 trauma center with CPEN certification.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for critically ill neonatal, pediatric, and adult congenital heart patients during fixed-wing and ground transport.
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills to autonomously evaluate patients, provide therapeutic and emergency interventions, and prepare for transport.
• Proactively assess and detect changes in patient status.
• Provide care and treatment in collaboration with healthcare team members for life support and stabilization of critically ill patients.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to problem-solve, implement treatment modalities, and maximize patient outcomes.
• Provide care within policies, protocols, guidelines, and scope of practice as defined by the State of Texas.
• Perform advanced skills and procedures as indicated.
• Maintain complete and accurate records.
• Demonstrate commitment to patients and families by keeping them informed of the patient’s condition and plan of care.
• Serve as a patient/family advocate.
• Maintain confidentiality concerning patient/family issues.
• Communicate effectively and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, patients, families, outside institutions/agencies, and the public.
• Problem-solve, adapt to change, and handle conflict professionally.
• Communicate with medical online control regarding patient condition and treatment plan.
• Represent Texas Children’s as a customer service ambassador and participate in outreach marketing and education activities.
• Participate in quality initiative programs, data collection, and research activities.
• Ensure smooth and safe program operations, including equipment checks, supply and medication inventory, and team shift responsibilities.
• Plan, organize, and position equipment and supplies for emergency conditions.
• Complete missions within the assigned shift, understanding that additional work beyond normal hours may be required.
• Ensure 10 hours of rest time prior to reporting for the scheduled shift.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures and standards.
• Participate in debriefings, transport/code, and rapid response events.
• Maintain professional development and clinical competence across all aspects of Transport Services, including ventilator management, nitric implementation, ECMO, trauma, and skills such as IO.
• Maintain competence in systems such as Epic, Teletracking, Computer-Aided Dispatch, and EMS charts.
• Consistently participate in education sessions and Quality Council.
• Assist patients, families, and caregivers in understanding and participating in the plan of care.
• Act as a resource to members of the healthcare team to ensure delivery of quality patient care.
