Transmission Technician - Clay, NY

Responsibilities

  • Perform transmission repair with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory time allowances and standards.
  • Diagnose cause of malfunction using appropriate diagnostic tools and software.
  • Remove and disassemble transmission units and perform repairs.
  • Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Save, tag, and return parts according to dealership and warranty processes.
  • Install repaired or replacement transmissions, replace fluids and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Road test vehicles when required.
  • Communicate with Service Advisor throughout the repair process to keep them and the customer informed.
  • Document work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Perform multipoint inspections to determine if additional safety or service work is required/recommended and notifies Service Advisor immediately of findings.
  • Attends manufacturer-sponsored training classes.
  • Keep up to date with manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Keep the shop area neat and clean.
  • Understand, keep up to date with, and comply with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience with high complexity automotive repairs.
  • Highly skilled at performing diagnostics for complex repairs.
  • Experience with pinpoint testing.
  • Comfort and skill in using diagnostic software and tools.
  • Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • An in depth understanding of dealership processes, warranty documentation requirements, and best practices.
  • Experience performing cap cost analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability in prioritizing work and problem solving.
  • Valid New York State Inspectors License.

Skills

  • Ford Master Technician suspension certification or domestic manufacturer equivalent (preferred).
  • Relevant Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications (preferred).
