About the role

This position represents a union-represented opportunity at Eversource, a leading provider of energy services. The Transmission System Operator Trainee role is located in Dorchester, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Implement real-time actions and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System
  • Maintain and control Eversource's Electric Transmission System continuously during normal and emergency conditions
  • Monitor and direct the tagging of transmission equipment
  • Direct the restoration of the transmission system after major outages, load shedding, or blackouts
  • Evaluate transmission system reliability using Energy Management System (EMS) software and develop appropriate action plans
  • Communicate and coordinate transmission system activities and conditions with ISO-NE, other control centers, and Eversource personnel

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of utility transmission system design, operations, maintenance, and construction principles and practices
  • Ability to use Energy Management System Software, interpret results, and initiate appropriate actions
  • Proficiency in using PC desktop applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline with 5+ years of experience in Transmission, Distribution, Generation Dispatch, or Generation Operations
  • Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline with 7+ years of experience in Transmission, Distribution, Generation Dispatch, or Generation Operations
  • Minimum of 9 years experience in Transmission, Distribution, Generation Dispatch, or Generation Operations
  • Successfully pass Transmission Operator Assessment
  • Successfully complete NERC Certified System Operator Examination and obtain a NERC Transmission Operator Certification within six months of employment or date accepted position

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Must have a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with an Associate’s Degree
  • Must have a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience
  • Must successfully pass the Transmission Operator Assessment
  • Must successfully complete the NERC Certified System Operator Examination and obtain a NERC Transmission Operator Certification within six months of employment or date accepted position

Skills

Benefits

The starting annual salary for this position is $133,415.43, with a structured progression schedule as follows:

  • $140,086.20
  • $145,436.17
  • $152,093.61
  • $157,603.64
