About the role
Our US work group has an opportunity for a Transmission Line Engineer. This position will be based in any of Stantec's US offices and will involve detailed engineering and support of transmission line projects (generally 69 kV to 500 kV) from conceptual design through construction support.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the preparation of specifications, calculations, drawings, and scope documents for construction tenders and contracts.
- Coordinate and direct design engineers and technical staff to ensure successful execution and timely completion of projects.
- Write and edit technical reports and engineering studies.
- Act as a liaison with clients and contractors, coordinating with various disciplines and permitting agencies.
- Contribute to a diverse company, bridging the gaps between different sectors of infrastructure engineering.
Requirements
- Self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, manage others, and meet client expectations.
- Proficiency in modeling transmission lines using PLS suite tools, preparing route alignments, and creating detailed drawings.
- Experience with lattice towers and familiarity with electrical studies like EMF, fault current, grounding, and clearance analysis.
- Knowledge of project management systems, including engineering, quality, construction, HSE, and field construction support.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex engineering solutions clearly to clients and team members.
- Understanding of industry standards for transmission lines, including ASCE, ACI, IEEE, NESC, RUS Bulletins, and GO-95.
Credentials
- PE preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of overhead and underground high voltage and extra high voltage transmission lines, including route selection, line and structure spotting, structure design and analysis, and development of construction bid packages (underground transmission design experience is a plus).
Skills
- Modeling transmission lines in PLS suite tools.
- Preparing route alignments and detailed drawings.
- Performing structural analysis and creating detailed drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Developing assembly, framing, loading, and design drawings for wood, concrete, steel, FRP, and lattice transmission structures.
- Interpreting survey data and incorporating it into PLS-CADD models.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, L-Pile, MFAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to learn and adapt to various client-specific systems.
- Understanding of project management systems and field construction support.
