About the role

Our US work group has an opportunity for a Transmission Line Engineer. This position will be based in any of Stantec's US offices and will involve detailed engineering and support of transmission line projects ranging from 69 kV to 500 kV.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the preparation of specifications, calculations, drawings, and scope documents for construction tenders and contracts.
  • Coordinate and direct design engineers and technical staff to ensure successful and timely execution of projects.
  • Write and edit technical reports and engineering studies.
  • Act as a liaison with clients and contractors, coordinating with various disciplines and permitting agencies.
  • Contribute to a diverse company, bridging the gaps between different sectors of infrastructure engineering.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, manage others, and meet client expectations.
  • Skills in modeling transmission lines using PLS suite, preparing route alignments, creating plan and profile drawings, conducting structural analysis, and designing hardware assemblies and conductors.
  • Experience with lattice towers, geotechnical data interpretation, and foundation design.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, L-Pile, MFAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of project management systems and field construction support.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex engineering solutions clearly to clients and team members.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for transmission lines, including ASCE, ACI, IEEE, NESC, RUS Bulletins, and GO-95.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • At least five years of experience in the design of overhead and underground high voltage and extra high voltage transmission lines, including route selection, line and structure spotting, structure design and analysis, and development of construction bid packages (underground transmission design experience is a plus).
