TRANSMISSION- Groundperson - NON-UNION - ULCS
About the role
This position performs all tasks from the ground and works with crews to install, maintain, and operate overhead and underground systems.
Responsibilities
- Clears work area and maintains safe jobsite conditions.
- Excavates to assist in the installation of structures or cable as required by contract specification.
- Assembles material on the ground to be installed by the lineperson or apprentice.
- Operates various tools for the work (manual digging devices, wrenches, hammers, come a long, jack hammer and hand line etc.).
- Communicates work to be performed to public and private property owners.
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisors.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc.
- Subject to call out work.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Skills
- Ability to work long hours and overtime.
- Ability to work with or around hazardous equipment.
- Ability to communicate with others.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information.

- Be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day.
- Have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain.
- Be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day.

Travel Requirements
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home.
- Willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.
Work Conditions
- Works around hazardous equipment.
- Works with energized parts or equipment.
- Works around excessive noise from machines, jackhammers, chain saws and other equipment, with proper hearing protection.
- Works at varying heights above ground, in manholes, and/or in confined spaces with proper Personal Protective Equipment.
