About the Role

Provide instruction at the professional level as a classroom teacher, team teacher, or remedial/special services teacher according to the school’s setting and organizational structure. Plan, implement, and evaluate instructional activities under established guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare yearly instructional outlines and daily lesson plans covering relevant units of study, specifying objectives, activities, and evaluative methods for both group and individual programs.
• Teach students by selecting, developing, adapting, and implementing appropriate instructional methods and techniques using available resources to ensure academic achievement.
• Provide learning experiences in assigned subject areas that develop cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills tailored to the needs and interests of all students.
• Continuously evaluate individual and group academic progress using criterion-referenced tests, periodic standardized tests, oral tests, and other relevant evaluative methods.
• Use alternative instruction to meet individual student needs.
• Prepare progress reports for parents and confer with parents and other concerned individuals.
• Maintain required records in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Maintain control of assigned class and handle discipline independently, except for chronic or extreme behavior problems.
• Counsel individual students within established guidelines, using background information to provide an effective instruction-learning cycle related to students’ behavior and progress.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered under the Military Selective Service Act and the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 (https://www.sss.gov).
• A background security investigation will be required for all new hires; appointment is contingent upon successful completion and favorable adjudication.
• Must be willing to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle as an incidental duty; a valid driver’s license is required.
• Must enroll in an Alternative Licensure program to obtain and maintain valid teacher licensure/certification in the state where the position is located and in the specialty field identified by the job posting.
• Will be placed on provisional status for three contract terms while enrolled and participating in the Alternative Licensure program.
• This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
• Probationary period is one academic year (two full semesters) during which fitness and continued employment will be evaluated.
• Initial appointments under Public Law 95-561 do not confer competitive nor career status.

Qualifications

• Possess a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) from an accredited educational institution.
• Provide proof of enrollment in a state’s alternative teaching licensure/certificate program within 90 days of the start date, for the appropriate endorsement/subject field (e.g., English-Language Arts/Social Studies) in the state where the position is located.
• Applicants with DODEA certification may work with states directly for reciprocity licensure and are not required to enroll in an Alternative Licensure program unless mandated by the state.

To meet the education requirements, submit a legible copy of transcripts (official or unofficial). Official transcripts are required upon selection. Ensure transcripts are not locked or encrypted and all pages (including the transcript key) are viewable. Education must be from an accredited or pre-accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For foreign education, credentials must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in foreign education interpretation and deemed equivalent to a U.S. education program.

Pay

Pay setting is based on degree and education coursework, determined after the selection process. Pay levels are as follows:

• Pay Level 11: Bachelor’s Degree
• Pay Level 12: Bachelor’s Degree + 15 graduate semester hours
• Pay Level 13: Bachelor’s Degree + 30 graduate semester hours
• Pay Level 14: Master’s Degree

Education must be in coursework related to the subject being taught or general teaching methodologies. Experience may be considered for determining pay increments, with a maximum of 17 years creditable. The per-hour rate for teacher positions will be modified based on the school calendar (Modified Hourly/Date Rate, MHR/MDR), which is non-negotiable.

This position is covered by a bargaining unit (Federation of Indian Service Employees, American Federation of Teachers Local 4521). Government quarters may be available. Direct deposit of pay is required. Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid, and no recruitment incentive is offered.
