The Opportunity

Lighthouse Community Public Schools is seeking a Transitional Kindergarten Teacher for the 26-27 SY. This role embodies core competencies of being an anti-racist educator, facilitating cognitively engaging learning, and demonstrating a growth mindset.

  • Specific teaching responsibilities include:
  • Instructing all subjects in a self-contained classroom or team-teaching in a departmentalized setting.
  • Leading advisory (Crew) daily, managing yard supervision, and leading guided study halls or ELD courses.
  • Implementing rigorous, standards-based curriculum and utilizing various assessments to drive student learning.
  • Building a supportive classroom culture that includes African-American boys, students with trauma, and students with IEPs.
  • Engaging in professional development and contributing to a collaborative staff culture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.A. or B.S., required.
  • California Teaching Credential, required or commitment to obtaining one.
  • Valid Certificate of Clearance, required.
  • Knowledge of California Common Core State Standards, preferred.
  • At least 2 years of teaching urban youth with transformational results, preferred.
  • Familiarity with progressive school models, preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.

Environmental Requirements

  • Able to work in loud environments, indoor/outdoor, adaptable to all weather conditions, and travel to field trips and school-sponsored events.
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds, walk for long periods, and move quickly to intervene in student safety situations.

Supervision

  • This position reports to the School Principal or principal's designee.
  • Time commitment is 1.0 FTE (full-time exempt) with a 10-month work year and significant student-free days for professional learning and collaboration.

Compensation Package

  • Competitive salary range of $61,500-$105,000.
  • Generous health and retirement benefits, including 100% employee health coverage and 50% for dependents, 8% employer-matching for retirement program, and optional 403b retirement plan.
