About the Role
This position involves independently reviewing and analyzing academic records to make admissions decisions for transfer applicants, executing outreach and recruitment plans, and providing advising and support to students in the Transfer Success Pathways program.
Responsibilities
- Independently review and analyze a high volume of academic records and transcripts to make admissions decisions for transfer applicants based on Title V Education Code, California Administrative Code, CSU Office of the Chancellor, and University policies.
- Create and execute outreach and recruitment plans focused on students in the Transfer Success Pathways program and transfer students at local community colleges.
- Organize customized outreach and recruitment events, schedule in-person and virtual appointments, and communicate with prospective students via email and text.
- Recruit students and evaluate admission and enrollment requirements for the Transfer Success Pathways program.
- Provide advising, counseling, and assessment of student progress within the Transfer Success Pathways program.
- Utilize resources and tools such as Transfer Evaluation System (TES), ASSIST, GE Breadth, Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT), and Digital Transfer Planner to assist students.
- Conduct ongoing follow-up meetings with program participants to ensure they are on track for transferring to California State University Channel Islands.
- Coordinate and support Student and Faculty Mentorship programs for Transfer Success Pathways students.
- Create work plans and carry out day-to-day assignments without immediate direction.
- Review Transfer Student Pathways enrollment and continuously verify student eligibility for the program.
- Maintain campus-specific information in Transfer Planner and Transfer Success Pathways agreements.
- Initiate visits at community colleges, high schools, community-based organizations, and regional fairs.
- Advise a diverse slate of prospective students on admission and enrollment requirements for the Transfer Success Pathways program.
- Maintain program descriptions and other information in the Digital Transfer Planner.
- Participate in the organization and delivery of on-campus recruitment programs, including evening and weekend events and overnight travel.
- Respond independently to inquiries from prospective students and their supporters via email, telephone, and consultations, providing clear explanations of complex admission requirements and troubleshooting as necessary.
- Interact regularly with transfer centers at local community colleges to ensure adequate support for Transfer Success Pathways students.
- Assist prospective students in developing plans to attain their Transfer Success Pathways enrollment goals and ensure they follow their course paths based on the Digital Transfer Planner.
- Collaborate with on- and off-campus partners to disseminate admissions information and update counselors about the Transfer Success Pathways program.
- Represent the California State University system through presentations on application workshops, educational opportunities, and support services.
- Attend professional development trainings, meetings, and actively participate in unit planning retreats.
- Apply knowledge of student records to determine provisional and final admissibility according to established criteria and procedures.
- Make recommendations and decisions on admissions by analyzing data and utilizing technology such as PeopleSoft Student Information System, TSP-Liaison platform, Webadmit Application system, Digital Transfer Planner, and Slate CRM.
- Collaborate with other offices to assist students in navigating the admission and enrollment process.
- Assist in developing and editing communications and systems to streamline the admissions and enrollment process.
- Evaluate student progress toward fulfilling transfer eligibility within the program and advise on alternative paths if needed.
- Communicate with students via calls, emails, and text messages to follow up on incomplete admission files and remind them of deadlines.
- Train and provide direction to student assistants who respond to inquiries about the admissions and enrollment process.
- Provide advising, counseling, analysis, and assessment for students completing degree requirements.
- Assist with other admissions and recruitment-related functions as assigned.
Requirements
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year accredited college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
- Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
- A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
Skills
- Fundamental written and oral communication skills, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Ability to understand standard office procedures and learn office technology systems.
- Basic arithmetic calculations, typing, and keyboard skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create and foster positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external agencies.
- Preferred experience in evaluating admissions files and accurately determining admission eligibility.
- Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of student recruitment.
- Ability to create presentations using related software and familiarity with office-related software for word processing and spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of project management is highly recommended.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for transportation is preferred.
- Ability to work frequent evenings and weekends and travel overnight on business trips.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds (primarily recruitment materials).
Pay
$5,540 per month
