Freshmen Transfer Students

  • Have you earned between 1-29 semester hours and has it been less than 5 years since your expected high school graduation date?
  • Have you graduated from an accredited high school or an accredited home school WITHIN the last five years?

Transfer Admissions Requirements 1-29 hours

Students that have graduated high school within the last five years must meet both freshman and transfer admission requirements:

  • Applicants applying for in state tuition must satisfy the lawful presence requirement. The most common documents that will satisfy this requirement are a Georgia Driver’s License or a copy of a certified birth certificate.
  • All applicants must submit supporting documents requested.
  • Applicants who have a High School Certificate (also called a Certificate of Performance) or a Special Education Diploma will not be considered to be high school graduates for admission purposes.
  • Transfer applicants who have earned fewer than 30 semester hours of transferable credit must comply with both freshman and transfer admission requirements

Students with Learning Support requirements at their previous institution may be admitted only in accordance with the Learning Support policies and procedures established by the University System of Georgia and Middle Georgia State University. In order for a student to receive transfer credit for Learning Support courses, the student must have taken and successfully exited the remedial course. Students who have not exited an area at their previous institution will be bound by Middle Georgia State University Learning Support requirements.

Traditional Freshman Requirements for Regular Admission

  • Transfer students must be eligible to return to their previous institution
  • A minimum high school GPA of 2.0
  • Multiply one or more of the Reading/Writing criteria
  • Have transferable credit from an institutionally accredited institution for an Area A English course with a grade of "C" or higher OR
  • Have a high school GPA of 3.1 or higher OR
  • Score 480 or higher on SAT Evidence Based Reading and Writing section OR
  • 17 or higher on the ACT English or ACT Reading OR
  • 61 or higher on the Classic Accuplacer Reading Comprehension Test AND score 4 or higher on the Accuplacer WritePlacer Test OR
  • Score 235 or higher on the Next Generation Accuplacer Reading Comprehension Test AND score 4 or higher on the Accuplacer WritePlacer Test
  • Multiply one or more of the Math criteria
  • Have transferable credit from an institutionally accredited institution for an Area A Math course with a grade of "C" or higher OR
  • Have a high school GPA of 3.2 or higher OR
  • Score 440 or higher on SAT Math section OR
  • 17 or higher on the ACT Math OR
  • 67 or higher on the Classic Accuplacer Elementary Algebra Test OR
  • Score 258 or higher on the Next Generation Accuplacer Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics Test
  • Completion of 17 Required High School Curriculum Units (RHSC)

Traditional Freshman Requirements for Access Admission

  • Transfer students must be eligible to return to their previous institution
  • In lieu of an accredited high school diploma applicants must submit a Home Schooled Portfolio. The Home Schooled Portfolio should include courses taken as well as course descriptions.
  • A minimum high school GPA of 2.0
