Schedule

Formal workweek is Monday - Saturday, 6:30 AM - 6:00 PM. 8-10 hours per day depending on service demand. Overtime as needed.

Pay

$26.00 - $28.00 per hour. 90-day probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain assigned heavy equipment including:
  • Ripping, moving, loading, and placing solid waste material, rock, and dirt
  • Cleaning cabs, tracks, wheels, teeth, and other machinery components
• Spot, screen, and remove unwanted and recyclable materials
• Identify waste materials inappropriate to the landfill and relocate them
• Assist spotters and attendants in maintaining organization and appearance
• Participate in and support training and initiatives to improve service quality, safety, customer and employee relations, and operational efficiency
• Safely and efficiently operate large heavy equipment such as dozers, compactors, excavators, articulated dump trucks, and water trucks
• Perform yard and facility maintenance including debris cleanup
• Spot trucks
• Work in compliance with all required permits
• Perform various utility tasks as needed
• Learn the operations of the transfer station
• Adapt to changing duties based on operational needs

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Class B driver’s license OR ability to obtain one within 6 months if required
• Legible handwriting and basic communication skills
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and read equipment manuals
• Adherence to all required safety policies and procedures
• Ability to work safely alone and with others
• Honesty, trustworthiness, and good decision-making skills
• Time management skills for efficient and safe task completion
• Ability to work at a fast pace and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Comfort with using smartphones and tablets for daily activities and team communication

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Tolerance for extreme weather and environmental conditions (temperatures from below freezing to over 110 degrees, rain, snow, wind, dust, and mud)
• Ability to lift up to 65 pounds by hand and work with others/machines to lift heavier objects
• Strength and endurance for cleaning wire, heavy cable, dirt, and debris in awkward positions
• Use of hand tools such as shovels and picks
• Capacity to operate equipment for up to 3 hours at a time, and between 4 to 11.5 hours in a workday
• Mobility to access and egress heavy equipment on various terrains, and perform bending, twisting, and extending movements during operation
• Strength and coordination to operate controls while experiencing jarring movements and sudden vertical changes in the cab
• Ability to safely climb on and off heavy equipment for operation, cleaning, and inspection
• Ability to walk/stand on uneven waste surfaces with slopes up to 50% (2:1 slope) to deploy plastic cover material
• Compliance with random drug and alcohol testing per DOT and company standards

Candidates must meet position requirements and pass pre-employment examinations including: DOT physical, DOT drug screen, background check, MVR check (driving record), and work capacity evaluation.
