About the Role

The Heavy Equipment Operator ensures the safe operation of heavy equipment at the Transfer Station for transferring and loading materials efficiently and safely. This role involves operating one or more types of heavy machinery ("yellow iron").

Responsibilities

  • Opens and closes the facility according to scheduled hours of operation.
  • Oversees the schedule of where and which trucks are to dump and switches out trailers.
  • Ensures public areas of the transfer station remain clean at all times; follows cleaning schedules per the Operations Manager for daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
  • Ensures customers (external and internal) use the transfer station according to all safety rules and regulations.
  • Meets loading schedules to ensure driver loads are ready for production.
  • Directs incoming trucks and vehicles to appropriate unloading areas safely.
  • Follows all safety and equipment checks and precautions in the performance of duties.
  • Reports all mechanical problems identified during pre-trip inspections or routine functions to the shop foreman immediately.
  • Participates in training and learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services.
  • Performs additional duties as needed to support the company’s vision, mission, and core values.

Career Path

  • Apprentice: 0-2 years of experience operating heavy equipment. Demonstrates ability to operate one type of yellow iron equipment with full knowledge of safety protocols.
  • Operator I: 2-4 years of experience. Safely operates two types of yellow iron equipment with strong knowledge of safety protocols.
  • Operator II: 4-6 years of experience. Safely operates three types of yellow iron equipment with expert-level knowledge of safety protocols.
  • Lead Operator: 6+ years of experience. Operates all types of yellow iron equipment, develops training plans, mentors employees, and exhibits leadership in prioritization, delegation, and communication.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of prior experience in heavy equipment operation (preferred).
  • Physical ability to perform duties in various weather conditions.
  • Proven commitment to work and safety, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-directed, team-oriented individual with a strong work ethic.

Pay

$25 per hour.
