Transfer Press Operator-3rd Shift

About the Role

• Stamping: Hot and conventional stamping (100–800 tons), automotive & industrial metals, multi-location facilities for high-volume production
• Laser Cutting: Multi-axis laser systems for prototyping & production, flat and 3D part cutting, trimming, and hole piercing, versatile with various metals and thicknesses
• Welding & Assembly: Spot welding for Ultra High Strength Steel & press-hardened parts, highly automated robotic cells for precision and efficiency, focused on quality, speed, and cost reduction

Operate 1500 Ton Transfer Press or machine tools to shape and form metal products or parts. Be responsible for operating, adjusting, and maintaining presses and tools. Ensure the quality production of assigned jobs at expected production levels.

Schedule

3rd Shift: Sunday to Thursday, 10:00pm-6:00am with overtime and Fridays and Saturdays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate presses that may be mechanically or computer driven to produce parts.
• Perform operations such as blanking, drawing, punching, forming, etc. on a variety of materials, based on blueprints and other instructions.
• Follow the control plan and perform in-process inspection.
• Perform and document required visual and physical quality inspections as indicated by the Control Plan.
• Read, interpret, and comply with the production work orders.
• Configure equipment and calibrate gauge settings, recognize condition of dies, load materials onto the equipment, feed material through die, and position and remove parts from the die.
• Ensure proper completion of daily paperwork and use computers for data entry in a specified and appropriate manner.
• Correctly identify and handle non-conforming products.
• Correctly handle scrap during and after production.
• Correctly handle finished products and corresponding documentation.
• Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, oiling, and lubricating machines.
• Check machine operation and report faults to leader/supervisor.
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes.
• May assist in the training of other employees as indicated.
• Participate in continuous improvement and assist in its implementation on an ongoing basis.
• Keep work area clean and well organized in a 5S manner.
• Maintain safety standards in the workplace.
• Ensure quality in the workplace.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1+ year of experience operating presses or in a related area.

Skills

• Knowledge: Basic knowledge of quality control, cost reduction, materials, and production processes; basic knowledge of press operation; English (grammar, language), Math.
• Skills: Good communication skills; ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions; ability to accurately prepare documents, production sheets, and other reports; ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints; ability to work independently and make independent decisions.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Physical Demands: The position involves walking and standing for long periods throughout the day. Requires lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling up to 75 pounds. Involves continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements while operating a machine. Stooping, bending, and twisting are required on a regular basis. Fast-paced environment, usually work standard 40-hour weeks, but overtime may be necessary.
• Work Environment: Work performed in a shop environment and regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, and noise. Requires wearing personal protective or safety equipment. Noise level is frequently loud (90 dBA). Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles. Requires working in non-air-conditioned, variable temperature factory settings. Employees may be subject to random drug and alcohol testing, pre-employment physical, and background checks.
