About the role
Lakeshore Waste Services is seeking a Transfer Driver to join our team. This position operates heavy-duty trucks with front or rear end load lift attachments to provide waste and recyclable material pickup services. Drivers must navigate high traffic areas and ensure all containers are safely transported to designated facilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide pickup service for waste and recyclable material containers, which may weigh up to 1000 pounds.
- Transport materials to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity.
- Navigate high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleys, and lots using advanced backing maneuvers.
- Operate vehicles in compliance with safety rules, OSHA, DOT, and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles and document checks using the standard DVIR.
- Report all unsafe situations or service-related issues to the Route Manager or Dispatch immediately.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings.
- Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager, and notify them of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify Route Manager of any service interruptions, such as blocked containers, closed lots, streets, alleys, or potential safety hazards.
- Complete and submit customer tickets when necessary due to excessive yardage removal.
- Ensure containers are positioned and returned to customers' properties in a secure manner.
- Complete end-of-day documentation and check-out processes as directed.
- Absorb and assist other drivers as needed to meet customer needs.
Requirements
- At least 18 years old.
- Valid Class A CDL.
- Valid DOT medical card or obtain one before hire.
- No DUI’s or OVI’s within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
- No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
- Successfully complete pre-employment testing.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English well.
Physical Demands / Environmental Factors
- Requires pushing and pulling up to 110 pounds.
- Frequent walking and standing up to 8 hours per day.
- Manual dexterity required to operate truck controls.
- Works under moderate supervision.
- Requires frequent sitting, reaching, and talking/hearing.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
