Job Duties

The Transfer and Graduate Admissions Counselor is responsible for engaging in recruitment activities and providing direct support to prospective students with applications and application records up to initial university enrollment. As appropriate, position directs students to other university staff to aid with admissions processes.

Essential Functions

  • Prioritize and plan work activities efficiently.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, as well as adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Build knowledge and skill set, share knowledge/facilitate training with Counselors I and II.
  • Show strong customer service skills to meet customer needs, diffuse difficult/emotional customers, and show respect and sensitivity to cultural differences.
  • Present information clearly and concisely with accuracy in spelling and grammar.
  • Maintain consistent attendance policy and be punctual for work, meetings, and appointments.
  • Meet commitments, complete tasks on time or notify appropriately when alternate plans are needed.
  • Take initiative in seeking increased responsibilities, independently act, and ask for/offering help as appropriate, and engage in self-development activities.
  • Travel extensively, primarily locally.
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

  • Ability to take initiative in seeking increased responsibilities, taking independent actions and calculated risks, and asking for/offering help as appropriate, as well as engaging in self-development activities.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.

Required Work Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant professional experience in admissions or higher education recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of previous recruitment experience in higher education or in marketing.

Required Certifications, Licenses Or Registrations

  • Valid driver license with "Real ID" designation, as required for air travel, or ability to obtain by first day of employment.
  • Must have a valid driver license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.

Work Hours

  • Mon-Fri 8am – 5pm; some evenings and weekends may be required to meet departmental needs, especially during peak periods.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to regularly lift, push, and pull up to 20lbs of recruiting materials.
  • Ability to move about and actively engage with others during event preparation, execution of event, and post event activities.
  • Ability to travel extensively primarily by vehicle.
