About the role

Utilities & Energy Services (UES) in the Division of Operations includes over 240 staff members with varied backgrounds and interests. The Training Specialist, under general supervision, develops, designs, and delivers classroom and individual training programs, and assists in administering and maintaining the UES Training Program.

This position may require traveling by driving a University vehicle to various UES locations both on and off campus and across the surrounding area.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, compiles, and reports results of training data; ensures staff members are current with their training plans and documentation is updated in UtiliSkills.
  • Assists UES Supervisors and Managers in identifying training needs; researches and finds solutions using internal and external resources.
  • Develops, reviews, and evaluates training materials; works with supervisors to ensure each employee has a documented training and development plan.
  • Assists with career ladder matrices development for UES positions where applicable.
  • Assists employees with tutoring, test-taking skills, proctoring exams, hands-on testing observations, and scenario training for Production Services.
  • Contributes to a safe work environment by reporting accidents, using proper personal protective equipment, following safety procedures, and participating in safety training.
  • Committed to improving service quality and exceeding customer expectations; ensures communications are responsive, respectful, professional, and solutions-oriented.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of teaching and/or training experience.
  • Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Skills

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and other word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Strong presentation skills.
