About the role
Independently assesses all training needs for specific target populations or subject matter (e.g., individual classes utilizing equipment operator training programs for internal and external customers statewide) and plans training activities to meet those needs.
Develops and utilizes effective methods to assist managers in identifying staff training needs, including training-related aspects of performance improvement plans, conducting needs assessments, and strategic planning sessions with managers. Develops and implements courses to meet identified needs based on valid job assessments.
During equipment operation training, proficiently operates basic, standard, and complex equipment (e.g., dump truck, loader, dozer, grader, backhoe) for demonstration purposes. Conducts training programs, including preparing materials, acting as an instructor, conducting workshops, reviewing and revising training materials, and coordinating division promotional displays.
Travels throughout the district to provide classes at ODOT facilities and throughout the state to serve as onsite training for On-the-Job Training (OJT) and classes at all work sites.
Utilizes computers and related software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, ODOT Learn, PowerPoint) to maintain records, prepare reports, compile training dates, prepare correspondence, disseminate training schedules, and maintain employee training files. Also facilitates training sessions and performs training-related tasks.
Maintains facilities and equipment, including cleaning equipment, mowing grass, and loading, unloading, and transporting equipment. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Six courses in human resources, education, sociology, or psychology; or
- 18 months of experience in preparing informational or instructional programs; or
- 18 months of training experience or 18 months of experience in public speaking or effective communications skills; or
- 3 months of training or 3 months of experience in operating audio-visual equipment.
Equivalent combinations of the above minimum qualifications are acceptable.

This is a full-time, classified position within District 9 Headquarters in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio.
Pay
Compensation ranges from $28.76 to $38.01 per hour.
Schedule
Full-time, operational needs. Work hours may vary based on training requirements.
