About the role

The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Training Officer 1 for Summit View Youth Center (SVYC), a 48-bed secure facility for male youth ages 14 to 18 located in Las Vegas, NV.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate delivery of trainings for SVYC staff.
    • Supervise and conduct training sessions.
    • Prepare course descriptions, develop curriculum, and deliver trainings.
  • Serve as liaison to the Division of Human Resources on training needs and requirements.
    • Conduct training needs assessments, analyze results and make recommendations.
    • Design and implement employee development programs.
    • Participate and conduct safety and other investigations as needed.
  • Ensure facility training compliance with relevant federal and state regulations, and DCFS and SVYC training policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in organizational behavior, education, communications, business or public administration or related field and two years of professional experience in the adult and/or employee training and development process including experience planning and developing curriculum and coordinating and conducting formal training.
    • OR
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of professional experience as described above.
    • OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of adult learning theory and methods of presentation.
  • Principles of lesson plan development.
  • The use of various instruction methods and lesson plan requirements.
  • Current learning technologies and various instructional methods.
  • Class coordination and logistics.

Skills

  • Ability to relate and interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds for the purpose of instruction and career development.
  • Ability to prepare and present a variety of oral and written reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of training providers.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and a variety of software programs.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness: Eligible due to public sector employment.

Longevity Payments Eligibility: Employees who have received a performance rating of “standard” or better and have completed eight (8) or more years of continuous service are eligible for longevity pay.

Additional benefits may apply to employees covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), depending on their designated bargaining unit.

State Holidays: The holiday schedule for State employees is established by the Legislature.

When January 1, June 19, July 4, November 11, or December 25 falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday is the observed legal holiday.

If these days fall on Sunday, the following Monday is the observed holiday.

Eligibility for holiday pay is covered by the provisions of NAC 284.255
