Training Officer - Engineers

About the role

MTA Metro-North Railroad is a dynamic organization providing service to over 86.5 million customers. This position is responsible for delivering training to new hires and incumbent employees, selecting and supervising new hire trainees, managing training programs, supporting training program development, and participating in peer review activities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, schedule, and deliver training programs, including new hire, regulatory, refresher, and induction training.
• Evaluate new hire student performance, review records, and counsel students.
• Implement disciplinary action as required, up to and including termination from the program.
• Monitor student performance and coordinate with client department(s).
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive onboarding process for new Training Officers.
• Mentor and team-teach with new Training Officers.
• Conduct peer observations and provide feedback.
• Identify performance problems and implement solutions.
• Provide expertise on technical, operations, and work practices to client department(s).
• Manage day-to-day activities of trainees.
• Work various shifts and locations to support operations.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree (AA) in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience related to the responsibilities of the position.
• Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Certified Locomotive Engineer with Physical Characteristics on at least one Metro-North line.

• Knowledge of general training and development techniques and practices.
• Experience in delivering training in a classroom and field setting.
• Ability to proactively identify and correct unsafe conditions and work practices.
• Ability to manage day-to-day activities of trainees.
• Ability to work various shifts and locations to support operations.
• Ability to work out of any of Metro-North’s terminals.
• Experience in developing and delivering training.
• Experience in training program development.
• Experience in management of relevant functions.
• Experience as a Conductor, Trainmaster, Locomotive Engineer, or other comparable title.

Skills

• Microsoft Office Suite and/or comparable applications (working knowledge).
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

• Experience in relevant operating crafts or similar functions.
