Summary

The Training Counselor/ Direct Support Person (DSP) provides direct services for adults residing at Ada S. McKinley Community Day Services. They assist individuals with daily life skills, personal tasks, and programming, implementing training programs to enhance independence and rehabilitation goals.

Responsibilities

  • Implements training programs to increase independence, personal care, fine and gross motor skills, communication, community orientation, perceptual/cognitive skills, and social skills.
  • Establishes a secure, positive environment that supports person served needs, self-expression, and goals.
  • Sets up jobs and training situations, determines simplified methods to meet specific needs, and facilitates inclusion in community experiences and activities.
  • Aids in increasing productivity, meeting quality control standards, and promoting appropriate behaviors towards achieving rehabilitation/habilitation goals.
  • Maintains accurate records of attendance, production, training, and progress reports for assigned individuals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • 6 months of DSP/CNA/Caregiver experience with interest in working with disabled individuals.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (K/S/A)

  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity to the client population.
  • Possess the ability to partner with clients and coordinate with other team members and external services.
  • Understand evidence-informed practices, engagement strategies, boundary setting, concurrent documentation, and community settings.

Fulltime Role

  • Compensation: $$19.66 hourly

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Sitting, walking, standing for prolonged periods.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, and occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Using manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds with varying amounts of assistance.
  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must have the ability to perform CPR and CPI.

Environmental Conditions

  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • Nearby noise level is usually loud.
