Trails Maintenance & Ops Specialist

About the role

The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department is seeking a Trails Maintenance & Operations Specialist to join their Nature Preserves and Natural Resources division. This full-time position will develop new natural surfaces trails, perform maintenance on both hard (non-greenway) and soft surface trails, and oversee trail projects in partnership with the Trail Resources Coordinator.

Responsibilities

• Develop new natural surfaces trails
• Perform maintenance on both hard (non-greenway) and soft surface trails
• Oversee trail projects in partnership with the Trail Resources Coordinator
• Participate in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our trail systems
• Collaborate closely with their team as well as community partners to accomplish the goals of the Natural Resource Management Plan
• Assist with planning renovations and modifications of buildings and structures
• Estimate time, materials, and costs for repair work
• Maintain records and make reports as required for completed projects
• Communicate with staff and citizens regarding the maintenance needs and problems
• Engage in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines; report and monitor unsafe working conditions

Requirements

• Minimum of three (3) years of specialized maintenance experience directly related to the area of assignment
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Class A CDL
• Valid NC Pesticide Applicator’s License
• GIS proficiency
• Fireline Safety Training

Qualifications

• Experience utilizing ArcGIS
• Heavy equipment operations experience

Skills

• Equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
• Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
• Safe work practices and hazards associated with work
• Use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities
