About the role
The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department is seeking a Trails Maintenance & Operations Specialist to join their Nature Preserves and Natural Resources division. This full-time position will develop new natural surfaces trails, perform maintenance on both hard (non-greenway) and soft surface trails, and oversee trail projects in partnership with the Trail Resources Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Develop new natural surfaces trails
- Perform maintenance on both hard (non-greenway) and soft surface trails
- Oversee trail projects in partnership with the Trail Resources Coordinator
- Participate in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our trail systems
- Collaborate closely with their team as well as community partners to accomplish the goals of the Natural Resource Management Plan
- Assist with planning renovations and modifications of buildings and structures
- Estimate time, materials, and costs for repair work
- Maintain records and make reports as required for completed projects
- Communicate with staff and citizens regarding the maintenance needs and problems
- Engage in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines; report and monitor unsafe working conditions
Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) years of specialized maintenance experience directly related to the area of assignment
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Class A CDL
- Valid NC Pesticide Applicator’s License
- GIS proficiency
- Fireline Safety Training
Qualifications
- Experience utilizing ArcGIS
- Heavy equipment operations experience
Skills
- Equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
- Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
- Safe work practices and hazards associated with work
- Use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities
