Trailer Technician

As a Trailer Technician II, you are responsible for performing intermediate maintenance, service, and repair to J.B. Hunt trailers and other equipment. Under routine supervision, you must troubleshoot issues and complete all fleet maintenance to ensure equipment meets J.B. Hunt standards.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficient knowledge of preventative maintenance and standard repairs related to trailer equipment, including fuel systems, batteries, engines, drive trains, onboard computers, transmissions, air brake systems, and FHWA inspections.
• Troubleshoot trailer issues and accurately perform intermediate-level repairs to company and manufacturer’s specifications; complete work orders and demonstrate understanding of company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.
• Assist with the onboarding and mentorship of trailer technician trainees.
• Participate in Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) training for OE repairs.
• Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures.
• Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age with 2 years of experience in semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent.
• Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences:
  • At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes.
  • Able to supply your own basic tools or purchase through our toolbox purchase program.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in the elements.
  • Able to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends if needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent.
• Preferred:
  • Basic welding skills (MIG and stick).
  • Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to use time and resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE).

Pay

Competitive starting pay range available. Factors such as skills, education, experience, and geography may affect starting pay within this range. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes.

Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates located outside a 50-mile radius of the job.
