Trailer Technician
About the role
The Shop Technician supports the Shop Lead by performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on trucks and equipment. This role is primarily hands-on and focuses on ensuring trucks are serviced efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on semi-trucks, trailers, and shop equipment.
- Assist with diagnostics and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
- Conduct preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and equipment failure.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and DOT regulations.
- Assist with parts installation and equipment testing after repairs.
- Help with inventory organization and tracking of tools and parts as needed.
Qualifications
- Required Skills & Qualifications: Experience in truck and trailer maintenance and repair. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Basic knowledge of diesel engines, braking systems, electrical systems, and hydraulics. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under direction. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Good time management and organizational skills. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Preferred Qualifications: Technical training or certification in diesel mechanics or related field. Experience working in a truck shop or fleet maintenance environment. Familiarity with DOT inspection requirements.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is primarily in a truck shop environment. Requires standing, bending, lifting, and working with tools for extended periods.
- Exposure to noise, grease, chemicals, and moving equipment.
- May require working evenings, weekends, or overtime as needed.
Performance Metrics
- Quality and accuracy of repairs and maintenance performed.
- Timeliness in completing assigned work orders.
- Adherence to safety standards and procedures.
- Reliability and contribution to overall shop efficiency.
