Key Responsibilities
- Direct all Traffic Systems operations for signals, lighting, signage, markings, meters, temporary signage, and municipal fire alarm systems.
- Develop and maintain signal timing plans, coordination, pedestrian intervals, accessible pedestrian signals, detection configuration, and operational data analysis.
- Cook with Engineering and Transportation on roadway and intersection projects, temporary traffic control, and infrastructure acceptance.
- Support multimodal safety through signal, lighting, signage, and pavement marking treatments and participation in safety reviews and crash assessments.
- Manage ITS infrastructure, including controllers, detectors, IP cameras, VMS, and fiber networks.
- Supervise technical staff and contractors, set priorities, assign tasks, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and safety regulations.
- Oversee inspections, preventive maintenance, system upgrades, pole changeovers, and field operations.
- Produce and maintain GIS based maps, plans, and infrastructure databases.
- Track work activities, materials, inventory, and equipment deployment using specialized software.
- Ensure Dig Safe compliance by documenting and locating municipal wiring.
- Oversee the sign shop, pavement marking program, and parking meter program.
- Administer contracts, monitor contractor performance, and verify completed work.
- Prepare and manage budgets, including capital replacement planning.
- Cook with emergency response, outages, and after hours coverage.
- Provide training, enforce safety protocols, and maintain standard operating procedures.
- Perform hands on technical duties as needed and serve as essential personnel during emergencies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred; additional technical training in electronics, computer technology, or a related field; five to seven years of experience in traffic control systems, roadway and street lighting maintenance, electrical work, and wireless fire alarm systems, including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Licensed Electrician
- IMSA Work Zone Safety Training
- Level 2 IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Certification (minimum two years)
- OSHA 30 Supervisor Training (within one month of employment)
- Valid MA Hoisting Engineer’s License
- Bucket truck operation certification
- Valid Class D Driver’s License
Preferred
- IMSA Signs and Markings Level II
Pay And Benefits
