Job Summary

Responsible for manufacturing, installing, and maintaining all signs and pavement markings in the City of Denton.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and replace signs/posts.
  • Install and maintain all raised pavement markers.
  • Install and maintain all thermoplastic/paint pavement markings including, but not limited to, long line, stop bars, crosswalks, directional arrows, and school zones.
  • Evaluate and determine sign and pavement marking needs in the field.
  • Maintain daily log and accurate records of work completed.
  • Perform daily inspection, repair, and maintain all equipment; report any issues immediate to leader.
  • Assist Signal Technician on signal projects, as needed.

Supervisory/Budget Responsibilities

None.

Required Education, Experience, And Licenses/Certifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • Six (6) months’ experience in sign and marking, outdoor construction, or related field;
  • Must have and maintain a valid International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level 1 Signs and Markings certification or obtain within one (1) year of employment, OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, as well as City of Denton policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and appropriate usage of tools and equipment, per to department/division.
  • Skill in basic problem solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Skill at the basic level, working with applicable Microsoft Office 365 products, and other software systems to complete work.
  • Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and/or with team environment while handling multiple tasks and changing priorities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop, understand, interpret, and apply rules, policies, and procedures operations.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and implement project designs, instructions, blueprints, sketches, diagrams, and drawings.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check and social security number verification.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must have and maintain a valid International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level 1 Signs and Markings certification or obtain within one (1) year of employment.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes.
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment and a variety of manual, electric, and hydraulic hand tools including, but not limited to, drill, saw, pipe cutter, chainsaw, jackhammer, and post-driver and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; moderate stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, walking, and reaching.
  • Lifting: Lifting more than 100 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Environment: Works outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather, noise, dust, odors, heights, potentially hazardous conditions, high-volume traffic, uneven ground, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work overtime, as needed.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
