Traffic Markings Technician

About the role

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) seeks candidates for a Traffic Marking Coordinator position. This role involves coordinating and participating in daily traffic marking operations, interpreting work orders and blueprints, operating and directing equipment, maintaining records, enforcing safety procedures, and communicating with supervisors and the public.

Responsibilities

• Interpret work orders and blueprints to determine project requirements.
• Operate and direct the use of equipment such as striping trucks, thermoplastic applicators, and hand tools.
• Maintain accurate records of materials used and work completed.
• Ensure proper mixing, application, and curing of marking materials.
• Enforce safety procedures and traffic control protocols at work sites.
• Inspect work to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and the public as needed.
• Work varied hours, including nights and weekends, and in varied weather conditions.

Requirements

• Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Broad knowledge of Microsoft computer programs, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical documents.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds and endure exposure to inclement weather.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of federal, state, and local highway guidelines, laws, and regulations.
• Minimum of three (3) medical plan options, including RX coverage, vision, and dental plans.

Pay

This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $22.00. CDL Positions earn an additional $1 per hour, and candidates without a CDL will earn an additional $1 per hour after 90 days of employment. CDL training is provided onsite by certified INDOT staff.

Schedule

Shifts are 6am-4pm 4 days a week during summer months and 7am-3pm 5 days a week in the winter. On call for traffic signs department and snow removal during the winter months. Mandatory overtime is required for emergency operations, including winter.
