About the role
The Department of Transportation Services (DTS), Traffic Signal and Technology Division, seeks a Traffic Signal Inspector to join their team in Honolulu. This role involves inspecting traffic signals and cameras to ensure they meet required standards, verifying electrical installations, and managing costs.
Responsibilities
- Inspect construction work for compliance with standards.
- Evaluate work zones, coning, signing, and safeguards to ensure safe travel conditions.
- Verify electrical installations meet the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Review and interpret traffic signal plans.
- Correct deficiencies and enforce compliance.
- Document work and manage costs.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Special Working Conditions
- Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- May encounter construction site hazards and traffic safety risks.
- Required to work weekends and holidays as needed.
- Assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC).
- May be required to complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
- At least four years of journey level electrician or related experience.
- Ability to understand basic electrical and electronic principles related to traffic signal systems.
- Knowledge of traffic signal equipment, materials, and fixtures.
- Experience interpreting traffic signal plans and specifications.
- Ability to identify improper methods or practices in construction work.
- Ability to estimate equipment and material costs for traffic signal projects.
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate inspection reports.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with the general public.
License Requirement
- Valid Driver's License (Type 3).
- Current State of Hawaii Journey Level Electrician's or Specialty Electrician's License.
