It also performs firmware and software upgrades, responds to emergencies in the field, and supports the development of incident response protocols. See the full potential of growth for this position here: (Download PDF reader)2026 Salary Schedule As a Traffic Signal Specialist I, You Will Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal cabinets, pedestrian indications, and school flasher systemsAssist with cabinet wiring, grounding, and component replacement including load switches, power supplies, Malfunction Management Units (MMUs), and relaysPerform basic troubleshooting of electrical and electronic signal components under supervisionAssist with installation and maintenance of vehicle detection systems including, video detection, and radarSupport installation of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) field devices such as closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, dynamic message signs, field switches, and radiosAssist with pulling, labeling, and terminating fiber optic and copper communication cablesPerform preventative maintenance inspections and report deficienciesSet up and remove traffic control devices in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standardsMaintain basic records of work performed and materials usedRespond to emergency signal malfunctions as assignedOther duties as assignedLearn more about this position by reviewing the class specification on the City of Colorado Springs Class Specifications page Knowledge Of We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: Engineering plans, schematics, and diagramsTraffic signal emergency response protocolsBasic electrical principles and safety practices. Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)One year of full-time, professional experience in a related fieldCurrently possess, or willing to obtain within 12 months, a valid ISMA (International Municipal Signal Association) Traffic Signal Field Technician 1 certificationCurrently possess, or willing to obtain upon hire, a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges We value a diverse range of qualifications and experiences.
