Traffic Control Technician

About the Role

Join our team as a Traffic Control Technician and play a key role in keeping everyone safe! You'll manage traffic through work zones, ensuring that drivers and workers are protected. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to contribute to public and coworker safety by maintaining smooth and safe traffic flow.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic control and flagging activities, including placing and removing signs, barricades, traffic cones, and other warning devices.
• Operate pickup trucks (not requiring a commercial driver’s license) and miscellaneous hand tools in accordance with safety regulations and procedures.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance and daily inspections according to OSHA and DOT standards.
• Report safety hazards and traffic problems.
• Perform manual labor assignments as needed.
• Work in extreme weather conditions.

• Operation Monitoring: Watch traffic and coworker cues to ensure proper traffic flow or stopping.
• Operation and Control: Manage operations of equipment or systems.
• Reading Comprehension: Understand written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
• Judgment and Decision Making: Evaluate costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
• Active Listening: Give full attention to others, understand points being made, ask questions as needed, and avoid interrupting.
• Vision: Must be able to see clearly to keep traffic moving safely.
• Multilimbed Coordination: Coordinate two or more limbs (e.g., arms, legs) while standing or climbing.
• Control Precision: Quickly and repeatedly adjust and react to changing conditions.
• Rate Control: Time movements or equipment operation in anticipation of changes in speed or direction.
• Static Strength: Exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects as needed.
• Problem Sensitivity: Identify when something is wrong or likely to go wrong.

Physical Demands

• Stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for extended periods.
• Frequently lift the following:
  • 5-10 lbs. – Continuously
  • 10-20 lbs. – Up to 10 hours
  • 20-50 lbs. – 4 hours
  • Over 50 lbs. – Occasionally
• Stand for 10-12 hours per shift.
• Walk or stand for 8-12 hours per shift.
• Bend or stoop for up to 30 minutes.
• Crouch occasionally.
• Carry objects for 8-12 hours.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment

• Work around moving traffic and near moving mechanical parts.
• Exposure to outside weather conditions, airborne particles, and vibration.
• Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions.
• Loud noise levels in the work environment.

Requirements

• No prior experience required.
• Valid Driver’s License with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• 10-Hour OSHA certification preferred.
