Position Summary

The Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) is responsible for overseeing the safe and effective setup, maintenance, and removal of temporary traffic control (TTC) zones for construction, utility, and special event projects. This role ensures all traffic control operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations—including MUTCD and DOT standards. The TCS acts as a field leader, coordinating with crews, clients, and agencies to maintain safety, traffic flow, and project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the setup, operation, and removal of traffic control devices in accordance with approved traffic control plans (TCPs)

  • Ensure work zones comply with MUTCD, DOT, and other applicable standards and permits

  • Conduct pre-job site inspections and post-job evaluations for safety and quality assurance

  • Direct and support field crews, including flaggers and traffic control technicians

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, inspectors, and enforcement personnel on-site

  • Cook up with dispatch, operations, and logistics teams to ensure timely job execution

  • Provide daily updates to supervisors regarding crew performance, safety concerns, and project status

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required

  • A valid Traffic Control Supervisor certification (state-specific, e.g., ATSSA or equivalent)

  • At least 2+ years of experience in traffic control or construction with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role

  • A valid driver’s license with a clean MVR; CDL preferred

  • Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and DOT physical

  • A strong understanding of MUTCD guidelines, state DOT standards, and local permit requirements

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift 50+ lbs

Working Conditions

  • Field-based role with extensive outdoor work near live traffic

  • Exposure to noise, dust, heat/cold, and varying terrain

  • Fast-paced and safety-critical work environment

  • Irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call availability may be required
