This is a full-time, non-exempt classified position designated as a “responsible employee” and “designated position,” which may require working during emergency closings. This position is restricted and subject to availability of funding.
About the Role
Reporting to the Building Manager of the Freeman Center through the Maintenance Supervisor, this position will provide all-around maintenance and repair for all areas of the Freeman Center on a daily basis. Responsibilities include ensuring the facility is well-maintained, clean, and safe by performing maintenance tasks ranging from simple to moderately complex. This role also includes on-call availability as needed and chair alignment and maintenance in the Pope Chapel.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repairs in various trades/utilities, including simple carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Assess and repair damages in rooms and facilities.
- Use hand and power tools effectively and safely.
- Follow written and oral instructions, communicate effectively, and perform heavy manual labor.
- Resolve routine questions and problems independently; prioritize work orders.
- Know when to escalate issues to a supervisor.
- Maintain working knowledge of building maintenance (carpentry, painting), plumbing, electrical, housekeeping, and inventory management.
- Monitor and maintain fire extinguishers, generators, HVAC units, and replace various filters.
- Work a flexible schedule, including after-hours call-ins as necessary.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education/experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience in building maintenance (carpentry, painting), plumbing, electrical, housekeeping, and inventory management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Training or coursework in carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical work.
- Experience working at a college/university, fitness center, or public assembly facility (e.g., arenas, convocation centers, theaters).
- Experience using computers and computer programs.
Skills
- Troubleshooting and performing repairs under minimal supervision.
- Skilled use of hand and power tools.
- Effective communication and ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor and prioritize tasks.
- Working knowledge of trade/operational areas, including building maintenance, plumbing, electrical, and housekeeping.
Physical/Cognitive Requirements
- Essential: Light, moderate, and heavy lifting (up to and exceeding 50 lbs).

Pay
Salary range: $47,288 to $59,110, commensurate with education and experience.
