About the role
The Virginia Tech Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center is seeking an agricultural station farm and grounds technician to support the maintenance of gardens, research and demonstration areas, and general grounds at the Center.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the maintenance of gardens, research and demonstration areas, and general grounds.
- Assist the grounds and facilities manager with agricultural and landscape maintenance tasks, including site preparation, planting, pest management, fertilization, irrigation, mowing, and harvest.
- Operate agricultural equipment for land preparation, irrigation systems, and landscape maintenance equipment.
- Operate forklifts to move equipment and supplies.
Requirements
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must obtain a Virginia Pesticide Applicators License within 150 days of employment start date.
Qualifications
- A 2 years minimum landscape, horticultural farm, greenhouse, or nursery experience or Associates degree in Horticulture, Turf, Agronomy, or related field.
Skills
- Experience with agricultural equipment for land preparation, irrigation systems, and landscape maintenance equipment.
- Experience operating forklifts to move equipment and supplies.
Benefits
Virginia Tech provides a competitive salary range of $37,000 - $42,000, commensurate with experience.
Pay
The starting pay band is Pay Band 3.
Schedule
The position is full-time with a standard workweek of 40 hours.
