About the role
The Facilities Management Department seeks two Trades Maintenance Specialist I to join our team. This position involves leading, participating, or operating independently in providing journey-level maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, construction, fabrication, and preventive maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Performs skilled analysis, repair, and maintenance of equipment, systems, and vehicles
- Leads fabrication and modifications of equipment, systems, and facilities based on verbal instructions, sketches, or technical drawings
- Inspects, services, and maintains tools, equipment, and vehicles
- Conducts quality-control analysis on equipment and systems, implementing necessary corrective actions for optimal performance
- Maintains detailed records of activity, operations, service, and usage for equipment, vehicles, and systems
- Prepares oral and written activity reports and estimates for complex operations, maintenance, and special projects
- Prepares sketches and drawings to communicate work plans to supervisors, subordinates, and contractors
- Captures and coordinates activities with other units, agencies, or contractors to ensure efficient resource use and minimize disruptions
- Monitors contractor performance, including goods and services provided
- Manages the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with safety protocols
- Ensures the use of safety and personal protective equipment and implements work-site traffic control procedures
- Oversees the maintenance and care of turf grasses, trees, and ornamental shrubs, including pest control, fertilization, and addressing plant health issues
Requirements
- Two years journey-level experience in landscape, turf, or building maintenance
- Two years of experience with Pima County in a Trades Maintenance Apprentice or closely-related position
- Minimum one year experience in building construction, repair, or maintenance
- Minimum two years experience working in landscape construction, turf maintenance, and basic irrigation system installation, repair, or maintenance
- Minimum one year experience in general maintenance of construction-type equipment (front end loader, utility tractor, brush cutter/mower, backhoe, skid steer, forklift, riding trencher, dozer, boom lift, water truck, etc.)
- Minimum one year experience with field operation equipment to include trenching, excavation, grading, auguring, boring, transporting job site materials, demolition, dust control, and/or open space mowing, etc.
- Minimum one year experience performing basic fence installation (barbwire, chain link, field fence, gates), or concrete and/or adobe construction, or rough carpentry
- Experience using basic computer programs, e-mail, work order documents and/or reports
Qualifications
- Valid driver license is required at time of application and appointment
- Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment
- Valid AZ commercial driver license (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s) at the time of appointment, or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period
- Arizona certification as an herbicide/pesticide applicator or backflow device inspector/repair person or installer, etc. at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period
