About the Role

Operate a field-type tractor with attached and towed equipment to perform a variety of tasks including digging, loading, planting, clearing, mowing, and dispensing liquid and solid materials. Work may involve operating in challenging conditions such as mud and areas with trees and shrubs that present operational hazards.

Perform minor maintenance on tractors and associated equipment, including checking and replenishing fluids, examining and changing filters, sharpening blades, lubricating equipment, and making necessary adjustments. Plan work order, transport materials, and adjust equipment settings for job requirements such as blade height, plow depth, and sprayer application rates.

Make operational judgments including selecting power settings, gears, and work sequence. Responsible for operator-level maintenance and ensuring safe and efficient equipment operation.

Responsibilities

Operate tractors and towed equipment for tasks such as digging, loading, planting, clearing, mowing, and dispensing materials.
Plan and execute work order, transport materials and equipment.
Perform minor maintenance on tractors and equipment, including fluid checks, filter changes, blade sharpening, and lubrication.
Adjust equipment settings for specific job requirements (e.g., mower blade height, plow depth, sprayer application rate).
Make operational decisions regarding power settings, gears, and work sequence.
Responsible for operator-level maintenance and safety checks on equipment.

Requirements

Work is typically performed outdoors with exposure to prolonged sun, dust, and adverse weather conditions.
Risk of cuts, bruises, or serious injuries from operating equipment or collisions on public roads.
Protective gear may be required for safety.
Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position.
One-year probationary period may be required.
Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check and pre-employment checks.
May require a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card.
Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Must pass a Medical Physical Examination.
Physically capable of lifting supplies and materials up to 100 pounds.
Knowledge of tractor and equipment operating characteristics, including gears, power ratios, braking, turning capacities, and equipment power requirements.
Frequent arm and leg movements to operate tractor and equipment controls.
Must maintain and retain a valid driver’s license; may require a Government motor vehicle operator’s permit.

Qualifications

One year of related experience in operating and performing minor maintenance on a field-type tractor and associated equipment.
Resume must clearly reflect relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities pertaining to the position (maximum two pages).

Pay

This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. Employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week.
