Under routine supervision, this position performs intermediate-level maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt tractors and other equipment. Technicians troubleshoot issues, complete fleet maintenance processes, and ensure units meet J.B. Hunt specifications. This role may require working outdoors, in various weather conditions, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends, as well as overtime.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate proficient technical knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and more difficult repairs for tractor maintenance, including but not limited to:
- Fuel system
- Battery
- Engine
- Drive train
- Onboard computer
- Transmission
- Air brake systems
- FHWA Inspections
- Assist with the onboarding and mentoring of new Tractor Technician trainees
- Participate in Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) training for OE repairs
- Troubleshoot tractor issues; work independently and seek assistance as needed
- Understand and follow all shop safety procedures
- Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers
- Accurately perform intermediate-level repairs to company and manufacturer’s specifications
- Complete work orders and adhere to company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines
Requirements
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- 1-2 years of experience in semi-tractor maintenance and repair, equivalent training, and/or military experience
- Willingness to work outdoors, in various weather conditions, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends
- A/C Certification
- At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes
- Basic tools required (supplied by the employee in most locations; toolbox purchase program available for those without tools)
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move objects up to 50 lbs)
- Ability to multitask and read documents/information in English
- Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient active listening, computer, deductive reasoning, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
