About the role

The instructional assistant supports student learning using Montessori materials and district models in small group and one-on-one instruction. Responsibilities include monitoring and overseeing student activities, assisting with classroom assignments, and supporting teachers.

Responsibilities

• Supports instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment
• Maintains and oversees student drills, practices, and assignments in various subjects
• Assists students in completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects in various subject areas
• Monitors and reports on student performance and behavior
• Reads books to students and observes their reading abilities as assigned
• Assists students with letter and word pronunciation and recognition
• Assists students with spelling and writing exercises and assignments
• Prepares and sets up work areas, decorations, posters, and displays
• Assures the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures
• Maintains classroom and other assigned areas in a safe, orderly, and clean manner

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience working with Montessori programs preferred
• Counseling and computer skills helpful
• A strong desire to see students succeed
• A sincere concern for youth
• A strong work ethic
• The ability to positively motivate students

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED

• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of Montessori educational methods
• Basic computer skills
