Tooling Supervisor (Tool Room)
Job Summary
In this role you will supervise production, maintenance, and repair of all injection molds at the West Tempe location. The scope of this job includes but is not limited to assurance of efficient personnel and equipment use, provide injection mold design guidance, scheduling toolroom workload, preparing mold repair cost estimates, guidance of apprenticeship program, occasional troubleshooting in or out-of-plant tooling / assembly / fixtures, and make recommendations for improvements to injection molds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct tool room activities related to the repair / maintenance of tools, fabrication of new components, and new item development.
- Consult with Tooling Manager to ensure efficient departmental personnel and equipment scheduling.
- Training of new toolroom personnel during their orientation period.
- Support all departments requesting guidance on tooling related issues.
- Work with the Tooling Manager on cost estimates for mold damage, equipment repairs, and delivery of components.
- Develop and maintain effective organization to meet short and long-term requirements.
- Evaluate assigned personnel, promptly submit required personnel reports, recommend required action. i.e.: salary change, promotion, discharge.
- Safeguard samples, confidential information, and personnel records.
- Promote a safe work environment, maintaining adequate knowledge of safety rules and regulations relevant to toolroom.
- Provides a "Customer Service" attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety policies.
- Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual, and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.
Education
Education or Equivalent Experience: High School or equivalent
Work Experience
Experience: 5-8 years of experience
Hands on tooling experience.
Complete working knowledge of all molding processes in the plant as it relates to tooling.
Demonstrate knowledge of variability, numerical reasoning, and computer applications.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education or Equivalent Experience: Bachelor’s in engineering preferred or 5-8 years of relevant experience.
Project management experience
Management experience
Complete working knowledge of MS Office.
Experience working with SolidWorks 2D and 3D.
Additional Requirements
This is a manufacturing facility, which houses plastic injection molding machines. Must tolerate fumes and particulate generated from various plastics. Work areas are equipped with adequate lighting, cooling/heating and equipment that are in good working condition. Must work constructively in an environment that may be stressful due to competing resources while at all times maintaining company confidentiality. Must be able to work scheduled work week, plus overtime and/or irregular hours as required to complete assignments. May stand or sit for extended periods of time. Must transport oneself to and from other areas of the facility and travel to other divisions when necessary. Must have good visual acuity. If specifically necessitated by customer requirements, must be able to see with or without corrective lenses and distinguish color differences for product and safety issues. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25lbs - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk & hear.
