About the role

The Tooling Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and optimization of manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and molds. This role ensures the production of high-quality products efficiently and cost-effectively, supporting various Jabil manufacturing sites and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop robust and efficient tooling, molds, and fixtures using CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX) based on product specifications and manufacturing requirements.
  • Conduct DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) analyses to optimize tooling designs and production processes.
  • Perform mold flow analysis and simulation to predict and optimize molding processes, identify potential issues, and improve part quality.
  • Collaborate with product design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure tooling designs meet all functional, quality, and production targets.
  • Manage tooling projects from concept to production, including vendor selection, quoting, procurement, and qualification of new tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling-related issues during production, implementing corrective and preventive actions to minimize downtime and scrap.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives for tooling design and manufacturing processes, focusing on cost reduction, cycle time optimization, and quality enhancement.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive tooling documentation, including specifications, drawings, maintenance procedures, and spare parts lists.
  • Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in tooling design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical support and training to manufacturing personnel on tooling operation and maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in tooling design and engineering, preferably within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX) for tooling design and drafting.
  • Experience with mold flow analysis software (e.g., Moldex3D, Autodesk Moldflow) is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of various manufacturing processes, including injection molding, stamping, machining, and assembly.
  • Knowledge of different tooling materials, heat treatment, and surface finishes.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply DFM/DFA principles.
  • Experience with project management and working with external vendors.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment.
