Tooling Engineer

Main Responsibilities

• Evaluate tooling related issues with surface finishing and electro-plating processes. Resolve issues to improve processes economically while still maintaining quality.
• Provide technical expertise and support to plating operators, machinists, maintenance, and management.
• Evaluate tooling condition and performance to determine maintenance or replacement requirements.
• Hands on repair and maintenance upkeep of existing tooling and fixtures.
• Design and develop plating tooling for the processing of new parts being introduced to the facility.
• Reverse-engineer existing tooling and troubleshoot issues.
• Procure and test plating tooling, fixtures, and replacement components from suppliers.
• Organize and structure tooling inventory for the processing shop.
• Maintain organized breakdown of supplier tooling expense documents (quotes, POs, CAPEX forms, etc.) for cost comparison and analysis.
• Document and participate as needed in audits for NADCAP and AS9100.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, problem solving and analytical skills.
• Previous experience designing tooling and fixturing including GD&T, methods of construction, and material selection.
• Experience with SolidWorks and/or Catia (or equivalent CAD program).
• Effectively collaborate with other engineers and operators.
• Experience with process implementation and continuous improvement.
• Able to follow DFM/DFMA concepts to improve quality and lower costs.

Skills

• Technical proficiency in surface finishing and electro-plating processes.

• Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Catia).
