This role offers the unique opportunity to earn your Journey-worker card and advance to a Tool Maker A position upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

  • Work with tools in cleaning, polishing, repairs, disassembly, and / or making changes.
  • Visually inspects tool using appropriate equipment following a check list.
  • Attends in person classes to complete required educational curriculum for the state sponsored apprenticeship program.
  • Cleans, polishes and inspects components of tool.
  • Uses measuring equipment, such as micrometers, magnifying lenses and calipers.
  • Uses CAD viewer to understand the work to be performed on a part.
  • Assists toolmakers with assembling tools.
  • Cleans and polishes using various stones.
  • May use an ultrasonic handheld polishing unit.
  • Visually inspects and performs measurements using measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, metric scale and magnifying lenses.
  • Assist with securing inserts using wrenches and other hand tools.
  • Visually uses CAD viewer, to understand the work to be performed on a part.
  • Completes process flow time sheets.
  • May assist toolmakers in assembling tools.
  • Refers inspection/part problems to Tool & Die Makers and/or Supervisor as needed.
  • Routinely performs cleaning responsibilities which may include one or more of the following: sweeping, wiping up oil, wiping and cleaning dies and molds, emptying trash and scrap receptacles.
  • Rotates through different areas of tooling gaining knowledge and experience to all fundamental aspects of toolmaking through hands on instruction and completing online courses; works with assigned mentor in each area of instruction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with vocational/trade certification preferred and 1-3 years of molding experience preferably with tool maintenance/repair/cleaning or related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be quality oriented.
  • Requires manual dexterity.
  • Demonstrated mechanical ability.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Pay

The pay range for this hourly position is $17.50 - $22.96.

Schedule

This position requires full-time presence at your assigned office(s)/worksite(s)/territory on your scheduled work days.
