Job Summary

The Tool Room Assistant is responsible for maintaining the security of the tool room inventory and providing for the check-in/out of tools and equipment to students and faculty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Issues and receives all tools/consumables to students and faculty
  • Verify all tools are accounted for before and after each shift
  • Notify instructors and the supervisor of discrepancies in the check-in/out process
  • Maintain all tools in working order, repairing and servicing broken/worn tools when appropriate, and removing & replacing nonfunctional tools/equipment
  • Aid with requisitioning and acquiring new tools and equipment
  • Maintain up-to-date inventory records
  • Keep the tool room clean and well-organized at all times
  • Maintain effective loss prevention systems, ensuring the security of all assigned company assets
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Education

  • Require Diploma in a related trades field from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Working knowledge of tools
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, including heavy lifting
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • 1-3 years of inventory control experience
  • 1-3 years related trade experience
  • 1-3 years of loss prevention experience

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually not exposed to weather conditions
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
