About the role

Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T specifications, and 3D CAD models to determine machining methods and sequence of operations for tooling components.
- Set up and operate manual machine tools, including milling machines, engine lathes, surface grinders, and drill presses to fabricate tooling from raw materials.
- Operate CNC machining centers and develop or modify G-code programs to produce complex geometries and multi-setup parts.
- Manufacture drill jigs, welding fixtures, assembly fixtures, and inspection gauges using materials such as steel, aluminum, and tool steel.
- Inspect and verify part dimensions using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, gauge blocks, and optical comparators.
- Perform heat treatment processes such as hardening and tempering on small tool steel components or coordinate external heat-treat services for larger parts.
- Repair, rebuild, and restore worn or damaged tooling components, including fixture locators, clamps, and bushings.
- Maintain accurate tooling records, revision histories, and calibration documentation for measuring instruments and gauges.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and quality teams to troubleshoot fixture-related dimensional variation and production issues.
- Support fixture design planning for new product introductions by providing manufacturability feedback during engineering reviews.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Precision Machining Technology (or equivalent technical program) preferred
- Must have 3+ years of experience as Tool Maker.
- Conventional milling: setups, feeds and speeds, edge finding, and basic G-code understanding
- Engine lathe operations: turning, facing, boring, threading, and taper work
- Surface grinding: magnetic chuck setup, wheel dressing, and achieving flatness/parallelism
- CNC machining: 3-axis operation, work offsets, tool length offsets, and program editing
- Use of drill presses, band saws, and other secondary machining equipment
