Tool Maker

About the Role

A Tool Maker will operate manual industrial equipment to manufacture and complete forming tools and fixtures. The role requires a working knowledge of tool room machinery, strong math abilities, and a thorough understanding of machining principles and blueprint reading.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as Bridgeport milling machines, engine lathes, drill presses, drill jigs, and welding equipment.
• Set up, adjust, and operate basic machine tools and specialized or advanced variations to perform precision machining operations.
• Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate tooling, including tooling dimensions and tolerances.
• Use tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, depth gauges, bore gauges, and height gauges to accurately check and inspect machined components.
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
• Select appropriate tools, machines, and materials for machinery work preparation.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Production machine operators to resolve technical issues.
• Clean surfaces of large forming dies and re-coat with die coating to ease forming operations.
• Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to confirm placement of cuts.
• Operate independently with minimal supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of conventional machining experience.
• Welding experience (MIG).
• Ability to drive a forklift and pass Verus testing.
• Certification from an accredited technical college is a plus.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints/drawings.
