Responsibilities
- Leads and directs Toolmakers in daily activities and projects
- Ensures all equipment and machinery in the department operates safely and complies with manufacturer specifications
- Key liaison with customers and die shops on new tooling launches and changes, ensuring timeline and budget requirements are met
- Attends die review and run-off sessions at die shops and in-house at Samuel facilities in Brantford, Ontario (SMB) and Columbia, TN (SMP) to verify tooling meets standards and equipment specifications
- Assists with die design of new tooling or die improvements as required by customers and die shops
- Provides SMP management teams with updates on tool builds and delivery status
- Assists in the launch of new tooling at the SMP facility, reporting and resolving any issues encountered with the die shop and customer
- Works with SMB and SMP toolrooms to ensure all project objectives regarding tooling are met
- Supports the Samuel Automotive Sales team in pursuing new business and processing customer requests on current SMB and SMP equipment
- Assists the Samuel Automotive Sales team in obtaining cost information from die shops for new tooling or tooling improvements
- Manages the Die PM Program in collaboration with Toolmakers at the SMP Columbia facility
- Supports continuous improvement activities as requested
- Ensures adherence to all government and company-wide safety procedures and 5S guidelines
- Complies with designated IATF16949 responsibilities, environmental management system, health & safety, and company rules and guidelines
- Ensures company safety policies are followed and safe work habits are utilized by all department personnel and visitors; wears personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Maintains a high standard of general housekeeping consistent with 5S standards
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Post-secondary technical diploma or degree in Tool and Die Design or Manufacturing Engineering
- 6–8 years of job-related experience as a Toolmaker in an automotive tooling environment preferred
- CAD experience preferred
