About the Role
The TMS Jazz Band Director is responsible for teaching the Beginning and Advanced Jazz Bands at Tomah Middle School. The purpose of these groups is to teach the fundamentals of the Jazz style of music and to offer musicians an additional ensemble to foster their love of music.
Responsibilities
- Set rehearsal schedules
- Recruit and audition students for ensembles
- Select music and assign parts
- Rehearse both ensembles
- Direct groups at performances
- Communicate with parents about rehearsals and performances
- Coordinate with TMS/THS Band teachers for rehearsal spaces and performance needs
Requirements
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read music
- Proficiency playing band instruments
- Experience working with middle school students
- Ability to transpose or rewrite parts as needed
- Basic understanding of the Jazz style of music
